PPE directive

The Australian Medical Association (AMA) Queensland and the Australian Salaried Medical Officer Federation Queensland (ASMOFQ) recently ran a media campaign with the message that fit-testing was essential to ensure frontline doctors were adequately protected from COVID-19.

This campaign was guided by survey findings which showed 70 per cent of respondents said they had not been fit-tested for the P2/N95 face masks that are used when treating COVID patients.

We are happy to announce that due to this campaign, Chief Health Officer Dr Jeannette Young last week issued a directive that any Queensland Health employee who has direct contact with a positive COVID-19 patient is required:

  • to wear a P2/N95 face mask;
  • have had appropriate fit-testing completed; and
  • must be vaccinated.

AMA Queensland and ASMOFQ commend Queensland Health on addressing our concerns and we will continue to advocate strongly on behalf of all doctors so that their health and safety remains a top priority.

AMA Queensland and ASMOFQ are here to ensure all doctors in Queensland have the support and conditions needed to continue providing quality healthcare. We are committed to providing a voice for all doctors and rely on strength in numbers to guarantee a positive future for the profession.
