You may have seen comments in the media today attributed to AMA Queensland regarding Queensland Health’s proposed website. To be very clear, AMA Queensland does not support doctors being rated by the public.
Comments attributed to AMA Queensland were taken out of context from a submission we made about the Health Transparency Bill 2019. Our submission comments related to the need for residential aged cared facilities to provide up to date data and transparency in relation to their services, activity and performance. Unfortunately, this was taken out of context in an article about a Tripadvisor type website to rate doctors.
AMA Queensland supports the principle of transparency and the collection of hospital data. We consider this should also apply to aged care facilities.
However the TripAdvisor style website is not one which we could support. Internationally there have been attempts to do this and none have been very successful. This is a complex issue that should not be dealt with in a trivial social media type way.
