What changes would you like to see in aged care?

The Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety handed down their final report on 1 March 2021, making a total of 148 recommendations. AMA Queensland will be drafting a shorter and simplified version of the final report for members. This document will aim to address what AMA Queensland's members main concerns are with aged care and whether those concerns were addressed in the final report.

Nominate for Federal AMA Board

Nominations are now open for the Queensland Representative position on the Board of the Australian Medical Association.

Under the AMA Constitution, the AMA Queensland Representative position is open for nominations. The appointment is for two years.

Premature births halved by Indigenous-led maternity service


On Close the Gap day 2021 we congratulate the deadly crew at the Birthing in Our Community program who have achieved outstanding success for the health of Indigenous mums and bubs.

A new study has revealed the extraordinary success of a unique Brisbane-based, Indigenous-led birthing program, with a 50 per cent reduction in premature births. 

CEO of the Institute for Urban Indigenous Health Adrian Carson said the Birthing in Our Community program has proven to be a game-changer for Indigenous mums.

COVID-19 vaccine rollout and PPE


AMA Queensland President Prof. Chris Perry OAM, made the following statement today.

“We are very concerned for the welfare of the doctor who has contracted COVID-19 and are endeavouring to make contact as appropriate to wish her a speedy recovery. 

“Adequate PPE and fit testing continues to be a priority for high-risk healthcare workers and is our best defence against all COVID-19 transmissions, including airborne transmission from more infectious variants.

Members share views on draft VAD laws 

More than 1,250 AMA Queensland members participated in a survey about Voluntary Assisted Dying (VAD) legislation, which is being drafted by the Queensland Law Reform Commission (QLRC).

AMA Queensland President Professor Chris Perry reiterated the survey was not a referendum on VAD.
